The Thanksgiving Challenge

In my family, Thanksgiving is a pretty awesome holiday, with family flying in from out of town and feasting and drinking from ten until ten. It’s my favorite holiday!
This year will be no different, except for my allergies.

If you think about it, Turkey is virtually the only naturally wheat, egg, yeast and dairy free dish served at Thanksgiving. It was looking like a pretty bleak feast for me, so I’ve tasked myself with making a number of “safe” dishes for Thanksgiving this year. I’ll be testing out and blogging about various versions of the following foods:

Apple Dessert
Stuffing
Creamed Onions
Mashed potatoes
Gravy

So there are lots of recipes and posts to look forward to in the next few days. Honestly, I tend to practice “marathon cooking” techniques, but even if I cook many things in the same day, I will be blogging about them separately. Trust me, when you need the recipe later, you will thank me.

About Me

Hi, I’m Abigail Gelotte, (everyone calls me Abi)

I have allergies!

Technically they are “food sensitivities” I won’t die or go to the hospital if I eat the wrong thing, but I will get some kind of rash, acne and probably be lethargic for a day or two. It really is worth it to eat foods that are safe for me, and avoid the ones that aren’t.

There are lots of food blogs out there these days, many of which I love. But as much as I love the “Gluten Free Girl” I read her blog and think, wow, if gluten was the only thing I was avoiding, my life would be SO easy! Well, really, gluten is pretty hard to avoid – so her task isn’t easy, but I have a list of 24 foods to avoid, and even the gluten free foods in the specialty stores often have ingredients I can’t eat.

I hope to blog about what I eat, great products I find, and of course post recipes too! Living with allergies has its challenges, but I’m learning that ‘living without’ is definitely living. Most of my recipes will be wheat-free, egg-free, dairy-free, yeast-free; honestly, many are vegan or from vegan sources

Enjoy!
